Electric cars are a bigger part of driving in Costa Rica every year, and the Pacific coast is a good road to cover in one. The difficult part is the night. A hotel with a charger means you leave in the morning on a full battery instead of planning the whole day around a detour.
Four hotels between Quepos and Manuel Antonio have charging for guests: Gaia Hotel, Parador Nature Resort and Spa, Boutique Hotel Las Cascadas and Si Como No Resort. Here is what each one offers, and what to ask before you book.
Gaia Hotel and Reserve
Gaia is adults only and keeps its own private nature reserve, a few minutes from the Manuel Antonio National Park entrance. It is the quietest of the four, and it is built for people who want the rainforest close without the noise that usually comes with it.
- EV charging. Dedicated charging in the parking area, so a car can take a full charge overnight or while you are using the rest of the place. Gaia also lists electric vehicle charging among the inclusions in the package that comes with booking direct on its own site, which is worth reading twice if you are booking through an agent: there, the package is what carries it.
- Sustainability. Solar energy, water conservation and organic gardens.
- The stay itself. Generous rooms with ocean views, an infinity pool and a wellness spa, which is a good combination after a day of driving.
- Nearby. The national park, the beaches either side of it, and wildlife tours from the door.
If you are travelling without children and want the charger to be the least interesting thing about the night, this is the easy pick.
Parador Nature Resort and Spa
Parador sits out on the Punta Quepos promontory, past Manuel Antonio village, on a hillside with the Pacific on three sides. It is the largest of the four and the one furthest from the main road.
- EV charging. Charging stations in the parking lot for guests driving electric. Parador says so plainly on its own directions page, which makes it the simplest of the four to confirm in advance.
- On the property. Several swimming pools, a full-service spa, and a number of restaurants to choose between.
- Environmental work. Energy-efficient lighting, waste recycling, and support for local conservation projects.
- Things to do. Guided hikes, canopy tours and beach trips, most of them starting from the resort.
Being furthest out is the thing to plan around. It is a real drive past the village, which matters if you are arriving on the last of a charge rather than the first.
Boutique Hotel Las Cascadas
We are the small one. Eleven rooms and suites on the hillside above Quepos, surrounded by gardens and waterfalls, close enough to walk down into town and a short run from both the marina and the national park. Everything here is handled by a person rather than a front desk system, and that includes the charger.
- EV charging. Guests can charge an electric car here. Tell the concierge team what you drive and which connector it takes when you reserve, and it is sorted before you arrive rather than after.
- The setting. Tropical gardens and waterfalls on a steep hillside, with the jungle coming right up to the rooms and the monkeys arriving at breakfast most mornings.
- Rooms and what is on site. Eleven rooms and suites, most with a private balcony, a pool, and Coconuts by The Falls on the property for breakfast and dinner.
- Getting around. Quepos town centre, the local markets and Marina Pez Vela are all short runs downhill, and the national park is a straightforward drive from the same road.
A night on the charger covers a full day of driving from here, because nothing worth seeing is far. What the rooms are actually like is a separate question.
Si Como No Resort
Si Como No is up on the park road and is the family choice of the four: a large property built around what children actually want to do all day, with a long-standing reputation for taking the environmental side seriously.
- EV charging. Charging for guests in the parking area. It is not advertised anywhere public, so this is the one to confirm when you reserve rather than assume from a booking page.
- On the property. A large pool, a kids club, yoga, and several places to eat without leaving.
- Environmental work. Recycling, energy conservation, and support for local community projects.
- Location. Near the national park and the beach, on the road most people driving this coast are already on.
It balances the family side with the eco-conscious side better than most places that claim both, which is why it stays on this list.
Ask before you book. Every time.
Check with the hotel directly before you book, whichever of these you choose. Details change: a charger goes in, a charger comes out, a connector turns out to be the other kind, and none of that reaches a website quickly. Ask when you reserve and you will have the most up to date answer there is.
Say what you drive and which connector it takes. That one sentence in a reservation email is the whole difference between a plan and a surprise at nine at night.
None of these is a public charging station. They are hotel chargers for hotel guests, and other hotels on this coast may well have one without saying so anywhere. Not every hotel charger is a fast one either, so treat the overnight stop as the charge rather than a top-up, and charge where you sleep rather than where you eat: it is the only stop of the day long enough to matter.
Four hotels, four different kinds of night, and the battery stops being part of the planning at any of them. Where you actually want to wake up is the harder question, and that is what the rooms and suites are for.
