The Beginning
From a family vision to a jungle home.
In 1991 Gary and Catalina bought a hillside above Quepos. Three years later it opened as Boutique Hotel Las Cascadas, and it grew room by room and garden by garden from there.
The second generation runs it now, keeping the hotel small, personal, and connected to the same land that first drew the family here.
How much changes on a hillside in three decades?
The land came first. The hotel came later. The story keeps going.
1994
The first rooms open their doors.
Built by hand into the hillside, the first rooms of Las Cascadas open to guests as a small family-run hotel shaped around the land.
2000s
The hillside fills in.
More rooms are built, each shaped by its place on the property. Tree Top Canopy rises higher, Garden Rooms stay lower, and the gardens take on a life of their own.
2007
The marina is announced.
Marina Pez Vela is announced for the waterfront below town. A working port becomes a sportfishing harbour, and the hotel sits a short walk above the fleet.
2012
The first Certificate of Excellence.
Tripadvisor awards its first Certificate of Excellence, to a hotel then trading as Condotel Las Cascadas. The first of the Travellers' Choice years we still count.
Today
Still family-run, still personal.
The second generation runs the day to day now, keeping the hotel small and the hillside much as it was. Same family, same land, a few new ideas.
