Manuel Antonio National Park
Guided Tour
Spot sloths, monkeys, and toucans on the most iconic park in Costa Rica with a local naturalist.
A perfect morning in Manuel Antonio.
We have sent guests on this one for as long as we have had guests to send. Two hours, one local naturalist, and a section of jungle so rich that the guides see something new every week.
Your guide carries a high-powered scope and binoculars, and looks up where most people look down. Three-toed sloths high in the cecropia trees, capuchin monkeys watching you watch them, toucans you hear before you see.
The difference is not the trail. It is the person walking it with you.
More about this tour
The trail finishes at a beach inside the park where you can swim, take photos, or just sit for a while before the walk back out. By 9 AM, you are back at the hotel having breakfast with stories.
We work with the same family of local guides year after year. They know which side of the trail the macaws roost on and which mornings are best for sloth-watching. That is the difference between a guided tour and a magical one.
What might you see out there?
Your naturalist knows where they hide, when they move, and how to find them.

Here's how the 2 hours unfold
Every step is planned so you can focus on the experience, not the logistics.
Pickup at Las Cascadas.
Air-conditioned van picks you up at the hotel lobby. Coffee is on us. The ride to the park gate takes about 10 minutes.
Park entrance and meet your naturalist.
You will skip the line. Your tickets and time slot are pre-arranged. Meet your local guide (with scope and binoculars), then we head onto the main trail before the crowds arrive.
Wildlife along the canopy trail.
The first 30 to 40 minutes is the sweet spot. Animals are most active in the cool morning. Sloths hanging in cecropias, capuchin troops moving through the canopy, hummingbirds at the heliconia flowers.
Beach finale.
The trail opens up onto Playa Manuel Antonio, a perfect crescent of sand inside the park. Swim, photograph, or just sit. Your guide knows the rocks where iguanas sun themselves.
Back at the hotel for breakfast.
Drop-off at the hotel lobby. Tropical fruit, eggs, local coffee. By the time you sit down, the day is still ahead of you.
